CEWF is Actively Monitoring Water Levels and Flows as a Major Storm Event Approaches– March 28, 2025
Your CEWF Executive continues to monitor Water levels and Flows and maintains communications with the TSW Water Management Team.
As of today the watershed is facing a high level of weather uncertainty ranging from extreme rainfall, freezing rain, or snowfall events across the reservoirs over the next several days. The forecasts include precipitation amounts as high as 60mm of rainfall equivalent over the weekend followed by more rainfall next week.
Reservoirs are 63% full in the Gull River system, 70% full in the Burnt River, and 73% full in the Central Lakes area. Levels are even higher to the south in the Kawartha Lakes. There remains a significant snowpack in most areas. TSW is monitoring levels and flows continuously and will be operating dams throughout the reservoirs to capture the next stage of runoff from rainfall and melting and reduce the risk of downstream flooding. We can expect water levels to rise creating conditions which could lead to ice cover breaking up with the risk of shore damage from blowing ice and some possible flooding.
Responsibility for flood warnings is with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the local municipalities. You are advised to monitor the MNR website for latest watches and warning, it is also useful to monitor local municipal websites for the latest information.
