Reservoirs Facing Flood Risk

All reservoirs are now expected to fill or overfill this week with at least another 30mm of rainfall expected along with double digit temperatures causing snowmelt. These are exceptional circumstances for mid-April.

The greatest risks are in the northern areas where there is still snowpack which is melting very quickly and adding to the flows from the rainfall. In the upper Gull River basin, lakes are rising as precipitation continues and the snow melts and flows are being managed to try to reduce the risk in Minden. All Lakes are expected to go above their normal full level in the next week.

In the Burnt River basin there is still some snow that is melting fast along with the significant rainfall. The Burnt River is high and passing as much flow as possible. All lakes are expected to go above full if the forecast holds.

The Central Lakes no longer have a snowpack so there TSW is dealing with the rainfall events. Again levels are being managed but expected to exceed full within a few days.

The TSW water management team is monitoring the situation continuously and making whatever adjustments are possible to minimize damaging conditions. But the whole reservoir area is experiencing very high inflows and in most cases there is still a partial ice cover in place.
