Summary of CEWF 2022 Annual Communications Meeting
On Saturday September 10, 2022, the CEWF held its Annual Communications Meeting at the Highland Hills United Church in Minden. The location chosen allowed members the option to join the meeting virtually using Zoom. The meeting was attended by representatives from member lake associations, by members of the CEWF Executive Committee, and by representatives of Parks Canada. The meeting opened with a welcome by Ted Spence, CEWF Chair; and Greetings from Liz Danielson, the Warden of Haliburton County.
The meeting agenda included administrative reports from the CEWF Executive Committee as well as a detailed discussion of water management issues with representatives of Parks Canada
The CEWF Executive Committee reports include reports by Roger Cunningham, CEWF Secretary- Treasurer; and a presentation by Bruce McClennan, CEWF Vice Chair, reviewing CEWF Priorities and Actions for the past year.
Bruce McClennan also presented a detailed report on the CEWF Communications Project which involves the production of a video and supporting documentation on adaptation of shoreline uses to extremes of high and low water levels which may be associated with changing climate conditions.
The second part of the meeting focused on water management and opened with a presentation by Stephen Braham, Associate Director, Ontario Waterways, Parks Canada. The presentation reviewed ongoing capital projects and planning for future infrastructure projects in the reservoir area as well as a review of ongoing Parks Canada Management Planning for the Trent Severn Waterway.
The final two presentations focused on the water management experience over the last 12 months. The first was a CEWF Perspective on the experience with a focus on the reservoir area presented by Ted Spence, CEWF Chair.
The final presentation was a review of the 2022 water management experience by Anna Ciorap, the Water Management Manager, Parks Canada, who is responsible for water management across the Trent Severn Waterway as well as for the Rideau Canal System.
The meeting ended with a question-and-answer session and closing comments from Ted Spence, CEWF Chair.
